An Arborist can be a man or a woman who has been trained to care for and maintain trees.

Arborists have different levels of qualification and skill.

These begin at Level 2 after the student has successfully completed the course on climbing and pruning.

The Arborist levels increase by 1 with further study and experience until Level 5 is achieved, although it is possible to achieve Level 5 by study alone. This course take some years to complete.

A Level 5 Arborist is also know as a Consulting Arborist.

Once the course is completed, the Arborist can then care for trees.   The trees are inspected with the Arborist standing on the ground.   From inspecting the tree, the tree can then be treated by either pruning or using fertilisers or if necessary, removing the tree if dangerous.    Sometimes a tree is that large that the tree needs to be inspected by a Climbing Arborist.   The arborist climbs the tree and does his/her assessment whilst moving around the tree.   He/She bases his/her assessment upon what he/she finds in the tree.

The Tree House Adventures has two arborists.  Stephen the Tree Surgeon is an Australian AQF5 Arborist.   This is the highest qualification and he is able to assess trees and write reports from the ground.    Stephen assesses all trees and then advises Mad Matt of what is required.   Mad Matt is also an arborist.   He is a Level 3 Arborist and he does all the climbing around the tree.  He prunes damaged or dangerous branches and sometimes has to remove the tree completely.  Mad Matt is also a Climbing Arborist and does assessment of trees whilst climbing around the tree.
