Often people ask ‘What is Bullying?’
When somebody is bullying you it does not feel very nice. There are often many reasons why somebody may bully you.
Bullying is when somebody:-
- makes fun of you in front of others
- continually picks on you, whether it be in the playground, class room or outside of the school yard
- tries to hurt you physically, either hitting, punching or tripping you
- tries to stop you from playing with others
- makes others not like you
- makes fun of you about items you may have or the clothes you wear, the hair style you have
- doesn’t like that you are good at something and they try to make you feel bad
- is always means to you
Being bullied can make you feel sad, lonely and frightened.
Why do People Bully?
Others bully because:-
- it makes them feel good
- they think it is cool
- people will laugh and they will become the popular kid
- they are jealous of you or what you may have
- when they are angry, they take it out on someone else
- they think it is funny to pick on somebody else.
Where can bullying happen?
Bullying can happen anywhere. The most obvious places for school children are:-
- at school
- in the classroom
- in the playground
- at the shops
- a party
- school excursion
- school camping excursion
- on a mobile, either texting or talking
- on the internet (cyber bullying) – always tell a parent when you are on the internet.
What should I do if I am being bullied?
If you are being bullied PLEASE TELL SOMEONE . You can tell:-
- a parent
- a friends parent
- a teacher or princiapl
- an adult you trust.
- you can also ring Kids Help Line on 1800 551 800 and chat to the operator there.
BULLYING IS NOT OK! If for some reason you are being bullied you do not need to put up with it.
